Charlotte Thorne

Founding Partner

Charlotte Thorne is a founding partner of Capital Generation Partners. She is responsible for the business operations of the firm, managing compliance, HR, external relations and the generation of intellectual property. She is a member of the firm’s Investment Committee and Risk Committee. Charlotte has a background in financial policy having spent several years at HM Treasury advising Conservative and Labour Chancellors on issues including corporation tax and pensions policy before working in Brussels in the Diplomatic Service during the launch of the euro. She also worked at the FSA advising on European and consumer policy. She has a degree in Politics Philosophy and Economics from Oxford.

Jonathan Giles

Managing Director

Jonathan Giles joined Rathbones Jersey as managing director in January 2006. Jonathan is also an investment director and sits as a non-executive on the Rathbone Strategic Asset Allocation Committee. Jonathan has thirty years’ private client management experience, is a fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and an adjunct lecturer at the Jersey International Business School. Jonathan manages a range of significant private client, trust and charity portfolios and for the past several years has been included in the Citywealth Honours List, which recognises professionals in the private wealth management industry who have ‘technical expertise, trusted status, integrity and reputation.’

James Whittaker

James Whittaker is a Managing Director in the Global Ultra High Net Worth team at UBS. He and his team advise some of the wealthiest global families using the full capabilities of UBS. James has worked at UBS for 11 years. He studied Politics and Economics at Bath University and is currently working towards a Masters degree in Wealth Management from Rochester Bern Business School in Switzerland. He has been included in Private Asset Management's 'Top 40 under 40' list on three separate occasions.

Jonathan Burt

Jonathan Burt is a private client tax and trusts lawyer. He primarily advises clients who have cross-border interests, assets and families, drawing on his extensive experience of international private client matters. He has particular experience advising UK resident non-domiciled clients, families based in the Middle East and Africa, and US citizens who live outside America. His core specialisms are UK tax, international trusts and wealth structuring, and advising trustees and beneficiaries on existing trust or foundation structures.

Nick Rucker runs the London & International Tax, Trusts & Estates team for Irwin Mitchell Private Wealth. He has a diverse professional background with a background in corporate and private client law and particular interest in international structuring, investment structures, tax, family and private offices and investment of all sorts. His background and wide knowledge of the wealth industry (both in and outside law) is often why his clients instruct him and why he is arguably unique in this part of the wealth industry.

Laura Dadswell

Laura is an international tax and trust specialist with particular expertise in corporate wealth structuring. Her focus is on providing commercial, but also tailored and sensitive answers to how best to steward family wealth in often complex circumstances. A partner in the private client team, she also co-heads Penningtons Manches’ private wealth group. Laura is personally rated in Chambers UK, where she is described as ‘an extremely intelligent person with a great work ethic’. A member of STEP, the world's leading organisation for private wealth professionals, Laura is a regular speaker on the conference platforms aimed at key players in the private client field, both in the UK and abroad. She edits a core text book and is a contributing editor for the Journal of International Tax, Trust and Corporate Planning. Laura is listed as a leading private client lawyer by Citywealth’s guide to the most highly regarded figures in private wealth management and is recognised in The Spear’s 500 guide to the top high net worth service providers.

As the senior tax professional and principal shareholder of Frank Hirth PLC, Paul specialises in advising a broad range of clients on how best to comply with US, UK and international tax. He has been instrumental in developing the firm’s client base since joining Frank Hirth and Co as their first employee in 1976. Paul has acted as chair of the British American Business Inc. (BABI) tax forum in London and served for two years as a member of the Electronic Tax Administration Advisory Committee (ETAAC), a US congressional tax committee reporting on matters to the Electronic Tax Administration. He is also a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA), an Associate of the Institute of Taxation (ATII/CTA), a US Enrolled Agent (EA), and a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP). He has also been recognised in The Spear’s 500 top accountants for the three years since its inaugural edition in 2015.

Nicki Staff

Nicki is a Senior Manager in EY’s London Private Client Tax team specialising in advising non-UK domiciliaries, family offices and private equity managers. Prior to joining EY in 2014 she was with KPMG’s Private Client team where she gained extensive experience advising ultra-high net worth non-domiciled Nicki has with practical experience of advising client on offshore structures with a view to mitigating personal taxes. Nicki advises a number of ultra high net worth individuals, their families and businesses on a variety of taxation matters. Some examples include: structuring property transactions, tax efficient remittances and bank account structuring for private equity managers. Nicki advises both UK and foreign domiciled individuals on the tax aspects of estate planning and asset preservation via tax mitigation. Nicki has significant experience advising trustees of offshore trusts with a UK resident beneficiaries.
