Powerwomen Awards: 15 Years of Championing Women in Wealth Management
Karen Jones, founder of Citywealth, is marking 15 years of the Citywealth Powerwomen Awards, which celebrate women working in the wealth management and financial services sector.
Jones set up the awards in 2011 after noticing that women’s achievements were often overlooked in a male-dominated industry. Her aim was to give women recognition, visibility and a platform to inspire others.
From London to the World
The awards began in the UK but went global in 2020, expanding to North America and now attracting entrants from across the world. Categories have been updated with the help of an LSE professor to reflect the changing industry, and now also include male allies and corporate diversity programmes. Citywealth’s Editor and CEO Karen Jones pays tribute to the judges who have helped select winners and to the women who have been honoured. She acknowledged the realities of leadership, its triumphs and its pressures, asking women to reflect on their achievements and the progress of the wider women’s movement. She emphasised the economic contribution of women across the sector and the importance of supporting the next generation, concluding with a call to celebrate “women past, present and future.”
Why Recognition Matters
Many women hesitate to nominate themselves for awards, says Jones, because they see self-promotion as boastful. But she argues recognition is vital—not only for careers but also for inspiring the next generation of leaders.
Looking Ahead
The Powerwomen Awards will return in 2027, focusing on individuals and organisations driving real progress in diversity and inclusion. Citywealth says the aim is clear: to celebrate innovation, leadership and equality in a sector still working to close the gender gap.

"It is an honour to be listed as a Women of the Year in Citywealth Powerwomen Awards for a second year in a row. The awards presents an incredible amount of strong female individuals across the financial industry that are leading the way for future generations. It is an empowering initiative to be a part of.”
Alex Gardner, Affinity Group
"The event was a wonderful experience, it was uplifting to be in a room of women who were celebrating their success. We were all genuinely thrilled for one another, which was lovely. The awards are great inspiration for the next generation of staff, and it would maybe be an idea to have a next gen type awards at some point. It was fantastic for networking and meeting people, we went for supper with people we met at the event, which wouldn’t have happened otherwise."
Gwenllian Le Blond, IQ-EQ
"When I saw the line up, I was flawed – each and every one of those who had been nominated were such inspirational ladies. I was therefore delighted to learn that I was one of those ladies, and even more so when I won gold for crypto / fintech innovation – UK alongside PMC’s Anna Worwood who, as head of our family department, won Inspirational Women of the Year. I hope that these awards inspire those just starting off in their careers to push hard and – as Tanya Beckett said during the awards ceremony - to not only talk the talk but to also walk the walk."
