A Vibrant Art Explosion: Yamo Lates in Margate
Margate’s art scene came alive on Saturday, 15th June 2024, during Yamo Lates, an event curated by the art discovery platform and app, gowithYamo. The event transformed the seaside town into a dynamic art hub, drawing enthusiasts to five of its leading galleries. Calin Lapuste, Global Head of Relationships at Citywealth took part in this amazing day in sunny Kent coastal town of Margate.

Turner Contemporary was a standout with its exhibition of Ed Clark’s work, showcasing the American painter’s groundbreaking techniques. Visitors were captivated by Clark’s iconic “big sweep” broom strokes, affirming his legacy in modernist painting.
Turner Contemporary’s historic and inspiring location, where J.M.W. Turner once painted, added a rich context to the event. Margate’s artistic legacy shone brightly through each gallery’s offerings.
Kavel RaNerty Gallery offered an energetic preview of ‘Duly Noted’, a collaborative exhibition by Lou Melchor and Kavel RaNerty. Known for its post-punk DIY ethos, the gallery’s unpretentious and exuberant atmosphere was a hit.
At the Liminal Gallery, ‘Nest’ by Thomas Langley drew significant attention, with gallery owner Louise Fitzjohn providing insightful tours. The intimate setting allowed for a deep appreciation of Langley’s work.
Well Projects continued its reputation for pioneering contemporary art with a striking exhibition by sculptor Jesse Pollock. This community-focused gallery was praised for its innovative and thought-provoking displays.
Lido Stores presented ‘Shelter’, curated by Enzo Marra, featuring artists Jenny Wiggins, Dylan Williams, and Gareth Griffith. The former corner shop provided a unique and intimate backdrop for the group show.
Visitors used the gowithYamo app to navigate the event, checking in at each location to earn a goodie bag. This interactive feature added an element of fun and engagement, enhancing the overall experience.
GowithYamo’s Yamo Lates successfully showcased Margate’s vibrant art community, making it a memorable day for all who attended.
