Tell Citywealth readers a bit about your role.
I am a board director and shareholder of Alex Picot Trust, where I work closely with private clients, families and entrepreneurs to help them structure, protect and transition their wealth across generations. My role combines technical expertise with relationship management; overseeing trusts, companies and family office structures while helping clients navigate complex legal, regulatory and succession issues. Perhaps most importantly, it is about understanding what matters most to each family.
What does a typical day look like for you?
One of the things I enjoy most about this industry is that there really is no “typical” day. A morning might start with a board meeting, followed by discussions with advisers in multiple jurisdictions, while the afternoon could involve helping a family with succession planning or reviewing a complex transaction. The common thread is solving problems for clients and coordinating with trusted advisers to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Tell us about some recent, interesting client instructions/requests you have received.
Recently, I have worked with clients looking to prepare the next generation for wealth stewardship, which has involved much more than traditional estate planning. Increasingly, families are focused on governance, education and ensuring that future generations understand the responsibilities that come with wealth.
What challenges do your clients face and how are you helping your clients to overcome them?
Many clients are navigating an increasingly complex world where regulation, taxation, family dynamics and geopolitical uncertainty can all influence decision-making. Alongside these challenges, there is often a desire to preserve family wealth while maintaining flexibility for future generations. We help by providing clear, practical advice, coordinating with other professional advisers and ensuring structures remain robust, compliant and aligned with clients’ long-term goals.
What is your proudest professional achievement?
Becoming a shareholder in a business that I truly care about and that I have been able to have a real influence over its direction and growth. It is very rewarding to run and develop a business with my fellow shareholders, all of whom work in the business and I consider as friends, not just colleagues.
What do you consider to be the most important attributes for a leader?
For me, the most important qualities are integrity, empathy and consistency. People want leaders who are approachable, make sound decisions and lead by example. A good leader also knows that they do not have all the answers and creates an environment where people feel comfortable sharing ideas, challenging assumptions and developing their own skills and confidence.
Who do you most admire and why?
My children. They keep me grounded, make me laugh and have an impressive ability to ask questions I don’t always have the answers to. They’re a daily reminder to stay curious, have the right perspective and to not take life too seriously.
Where was the last place you travelled to for work or pleasure?
Wimbledon – it was my first time there and I went with my husband. I love watching live sport and the buzz that comes with big sporting events. It was such an enjoyable day out.
If you weren’t in this industry, what else might you be doing?
I’d love to be a ski instructor. Being in the mountains, meeting people from all over the world and skiing all day would very much appeal to me.
How do you relax after a long day?
I enjoy spending time outdoors and making the most of island life in Jersey. I enjoy long walks along the coast or a swim in the sea. When the weather doesn’t allow that, I love reading – a good book could keep me completely engrossed for hours!
