Citywealth Leaders List, 60 seconds interview – Jonathan Gold, W1M
This week’s 60 seconds Citywealth Leaders List interview is dedicated to Jonathan Gold, Wealth Manager (US) at W1M.

Tell Citywealth readers a bit about your role.
I work with US connected families in the organisation and management of their global wealth. This includes Americans living in the UK as well as both Brits and Americans living in the US. Our client relationships incorporate financial planning, investment management and global reporting so there are lots of client contact points.
What does a typical day look like for you?
A typical day is a mixture of client review meetings, prospect calls and internal meetings to coordination client activity. I’ll often meet with industry contacts, and at times the day also includes preparing presentations for speaking at industry events.
Tell us about some recent, interesting client instructions/requests you have received.
I have just taken on new clients that are the founders of a fabulous well-known international business. The growth of their business saw them move to the US and we are working together on their account restructuring, investment management and future estate planning.
Another interesting client is a very senior leader of a US tech giant. They were introduced to me because of the complexity with the US and UK taxation of their vested and vesting stocks, as well as the increasing complexity of reporting their taxes in the UK for their Global assets.
What challenges do your clients face and how are you helping your clients to overcome them?
One of the biggest challenges clients face is the creation of an integrated investment strategy and fiscal reporting of their global assets.
Most financial institutions have segregated teams and investment/ reporting platforms in the US and outside of the US. This prevents clients having a joined-up plan.
We have built a global platform that can work with and look after the assets of clients whether they or the investments are in the US, UK and Europe. We offer a single entry point, a client portal and tax reports for their worldwide assets.
What is your proudest professional achievement?
Managing the investments of the world’s number one golfer and number one tennis player at the same was a career high from a relationship management perspective.
Helping my team grow and develop their own careers is incredibly rewarding nowadays.
What do you consider to be the most important attributes for a leader?
Leading by example, communicating effectively and focussing on the goal.
Who do you most admire and why?
I admire entrepreneurs that make it happen. There is big difference between working for a business and starting and growing one from scratch.
Where was the last place you travelled to for work or pleasure?
We recently went to Nashville for my daughter’s 21st birthday. It is a brilliant city to celebrate in.
If you weren’t in this industry, what else might you be doing?
I actually started working in the food industry as a grad out of uni and spent time at Coca-Cola and Unilever. These were amazing learning grounds for how to work in a sales role and deal with clients.
How do you relax after a long day?
During the week we have always eaten together as a family. Really important family time.
