Citywealth Leaders List, 60 seconds interview – Natalie Butt, Crowe UK
This week’s 60 seconds Citywealth Leaders List interview is dedicated to Natalie Butt Director, Private Clients, Crowe UK.

What does a typical day look like for you?
No two days are the same. I may be helping my team with a technical issue around inheritance tax, supporting clients through the succession of a family business, or dealing with a cross-border probate following the death of a loved one.
Tell us about some recent, interesting client instructions you have received.
I am currently supporting a family with end of life planning to ensure that the father’s legacy continues, with careful consideration being given to setting up a charitable trust on his death.
What challenges do your clients face and how are you helping them to overcome them?
Clients often struggle with complexity and uncertainty, and my role is to simplify the issues, provide structure, and give them meaningful options that work both in theory and in practice.
Are there any top of mind themes for you or your clients?
Succession planning, rising inheritance tax exposure following the BPR/APR changes, and the increasing use of trusts are very much front of mind.
What is your proudest professional achievement?
Giving evidence to the House of Lords sub committee, in the House of Parliament, on the new BPR changes.
What do you consider to be the most important attributes for a leader?
Empathy, clarity and consistency are essential, particularly in professional services where people matter as much as technical skill.
Who do you most admire and why?
I admire my late grandmother. She was of a generation where, during the war, her father and brothers went off to fight, and she had to support her younger siblings and grandparents alongside her sisters. She experienced one of the greatest technological revolutions yet embraced it all with great humour and strength of character.
Where was the last place you travelled to for work or pleasure?
I recently went to Lisbon to watch my husband run the Lisbon Half Marathon. It was our first holiday without the children and I enjoyed every second of the peace, even the three hour airport delay was manageable.
If you weren’t in this industry, what else might you be doing?
I always wanted to be a human rights barrister
How do you relax after a long day?
I run, usually first thing in the morning, so after a long day, it’s often an early night followed by a very early morning run.
