Citywealth Leaders List, 60 seconds interview – Joshua Kendal, ZEDRA – Guernsey
This week’s 60-second Citywealth Leaders List interview is dedicated to Joshua Kendal, Director at ZEDRA – Guernsey.

Tell City wealth readers a bit about your role.
I have the pleasure in leading the private client and corporate team at ZEDRA in Guernsey, where we manage and administer a diverse range of client structures for an international portfolio of high net worth individuals and families.
What does a typical day look like for you?
My day typically starts with a visit to the local gym, before a strong cup of coffee whilst catching up with email correspondence overnight given our international client base. This then allows me to identity the key action points for our clients and the business with the wider team for the day ahead.
Tell us about some recent, interesting client instructions/requests you have received.
Luckily we have a number of ongoing interesting client matters which are keeping myself and the team busy. These range from unique investment opportunities in transformational businesses to developing wealth strategies for families to aid the preservation and enhancement of their wealth through multi-generations.
What challenges do your clients face and how are you helping your clients to overcome them?
These can be wide ranging, from changes in legalisation, downturn in investment values, or perhaps family disputes. Our role is to help navigate these challenges for our clients and put mechanisms in place to protect their wealth and assets from such challenges, being proactive rather than reactive.
What is your proudest professional achievement?
I would probably say the completion of my professional studies whilst in employment. I thoroughly enjoy learning and continuously developing my skillsets, and am proud of my ability to dedicate a significant amount of time to these studies. These principally relate to completing the Chartered Governance Institute and Institute of Directors Programmes.
What do you consider to be the most important attributes for a leader?
Communication and consistency in communication is important, in addition to being able to listen to others rather than dictate to allow for others to feel empowered in their roles to ultimately develop firm engagement from your team members.
Who do you most admire and why?
My mum, she was a fiercely loyal and dedicated parent and person, and these are values that I luckily have engrained in me from her, which have ultimately helped me both personally and professionally.
Where was the last place you travelled to for work or pleasure?
I have been lucky enough to travel to the UAE for work this year as part of our ongoing initiative to meet with our clients and intermediaries in person. In terms of pleasure, the most recent was a family holiday with the children in France, spending some quality time at a French caravan site, taking it back to basics and enjoying the simple life.
If you weren’t in this industry, what else might you be doing?
I would hope to be in a role that supports wildlife conservation, as I have a real passion for the protection of our planet and wildlife species which are clearly under threat due to certain human activities.
How do you relax after a long day?
Immediately there isn’t too much relaxing as I return home to two young children, although it is very nice to spend some quality time with them both before bedtime. My wife and I can then relax with some dinner and a tv series.
If you could recommend one person in the private wealth industry who would it be, and what would you say about them?
I have been lucky enough to work with a number of great people and mentors so it is difficult to say, however I would certainly recommend Elaine Kennedy, not because she is my boss, but because she will not hesitate to go over and beyond for her clients and team members.
