The Duchess of Richmond and Gordon, Susan, who was chatelaine of Goodwood, is remembered for transforming the Goodwood estate through her pioneering work in equestrianism, particularly dressage, and organic farming. Her husband, Charles Gordon-Lennox, was the 10th Duke of Richmond and Gordon.

The Dowager Duchess died in 2023 at the age of 90, while the current Duchess is Janet Elizabeth Astor, who married the 11th Duke of Richmond in 1991She led an exceptional life, entirely committed to enhancing the quality of both human and animal lives. She contributed so much to Goodwood, and was responsible for putting the estate back on its feet when she and her husband, Charles, took it on in 1969.
She will be remembered by all who met her as the kindest and most loving person.
