She is a corporate, funds and financial services lawyer and founder of Breedy Henderson, advising family offices, entrepreneurs, fund managers and private wealth clients on corporate, regulatory and governance matters in the UK and internationally.
Tell Citywealth readers a bit about your role.
I advise family offices, founders and investors on ownership, governance and capital. What I enjoy most is helping clients think through important decisions, whether that is growing a business, deploying capital, supporting innovation or planning for the next generation. Much of my work is about helping people build something that lasts.
What does a typical day look like for you?
There is no such thing as a typical day, which is one of the reasons I enjoy my work. One day I might be working on a transaction, the next discussing governance issues with a family office, and the next helping a founder think through growth or investment options. I also spend time writing, speaking and pursuing my interests in leadership, ethics and responsible ownership.
Tell us about some recent, interesting client instructions or requests you have received.
I have recently advised on family office structures, governance arrangements for growing businesses, fund-related matters and innovative approaches to accessing capital. The work I enjoy most is where legal advice, strategy and judgement come together. I love helping clients think through not just the deal in front of them, but the future they are trying to create.
What challenges do your clients face and how are you helping them to overcome them?
Many of my clients do not suffer from a lack of opportunity. If anything, they have too many options. The challenge is deciding where to focus, managing risk and making sure decisions align with their values and long-term objectives. My role is often to help them cut through complexity, ask the right questions and make decisions they will still be happy with years from now.
What is your proudest professional achievement?
My proudest professional achievements are not necessarily the largest transactions but the moments when I have helped clients through difficult and high-stakes situations. In one matter, we were able to resolve a deeply contested dispute on terms that enabled the parties to move on without further litigation. In another, we secured appropriate valuation protections and ring-fencing arrangements in a complex business venture. Both required careful judgement, persistence and a focus on achieving the right commercial outcome rather than simply winning an argument.
What do you consider to be the most important attributes for a leader?
The best leaders combine integrity, judgement, courage and humility. They see leadership as stewardship, not power.
Who do you most admire and why?
I most admire my mother. Her resilience, integrity and unwavering belief in education and hard work shaped the person I am today. She taught me that character matters more than status and that success is about contribution as much as achievement.
Where was the last place you travelled to for work or pleasure?
The last place I travelled to was Brittany with my family. I love its combination of sea, culture and art, and particularly enjoyed visiting the Fonds Helene & Edouard Leclerc. For me, a perfect break involves time with family, good books and the opportunity to immerse myself in art and new ideas.
If you weren’t in this industry, what else might you be doing?
I would probably be teaching philosophy. I’m fascinated by leadership, ethics, innovation and how people make decisions. It’s an interest I’ve maintained throughout my career and continue to pursue through my role as Treasurer of the Reform Club Philosophy Society.
How do you relax after a long day?
Art and music are my reset button. I enjoy supporting the Royal Academy Schools programme and my musical tastes range from Handel’s Messiah to Wynton Marsalis and Public Enemy. I often find the best ideas come when I step away from work and immerse myself in creativity.
