Citywealth Leaders List, 60 second interview – Nick Marshall, Nicole Marshall
This week’s 60 seconds Citywealth Leaders List interview is dedicated to Nick Marshall, Partner at Nicole Marshall.

Tell Citywealth readers a bit about your role.
I am a Jersey Advocate and Partner in Nicolle Marshall LLP. We are a boutique Jersey law firm specialising in local and international estate planning, trust and company structuring, and business transactions, and Jersey property work. The firm was set up by Clare Nicolle and me in 2024.
What does a typical day look like for you?
I am usually in our office around 8am. I need caffeination before doing anything and so will have stopped to grab a flat white to bring in. I try to keep up to date with emails as far as possible, even if it is just to acknowledge receipt, and will be looking at them first. One of our values is to be responsive. If someone has gone to the trouble to contact us, it is important that we respond promptly not least to see if it is something with which we can help.
I specialise in trust and corporate work, and this involves a wide range of topics. This can include work on trust structures for local and overseas trustees, and corporate work which may involve numerous things such as re-financings. I also undertake local M&A work (having started my professional life in Manchester as a corporate lawyer) and so often have a number of transactions to work on.
Tell us about some recent, interesting client instructions/requests you have received.
I have recently been consulted to work on several local charity matters. These include helping a local charity to wind down and for its assets to be transferred to another charity, and to restructure a charity from being a specific type of local trust known as a ‘fideicommis’ to a company limited by guarantee.
I have also recently acted for the sponsor of an event rider, and a sports agent in the golfing world on their management contract with a new client.
What challenges do your clients face and how are you helping your clients to overcome them?
My main client audience is local and overseas trustees/corporate service providers. Not only are their own clients demanding in what they expect from their service providers, but the latter are also having to deal with the ever present and increasing amount of regulation and reporting. I see my role as helping trustee clients meet those demands. This can be by the prompt provision of written advice, and documents for transactions, or by simply acting as a sounding-board. We like to build relationships and so are very happy for clients to reach out just to chat through a particular issue or question.
What is your proudest professional achievement?
Establishing Nicolle Marshall LLP with Clare Nicolle.
What do you consider to be the most important attributes for a leader?
In my view, to be a good leader, they must be able to articulate their vision and the direction of travel, whatever the business. But they must also be able to listen; to hear other voices and to take on board any concerns. They should also be able to know when to seek advice or assistance from others and empower those within an organisation.
Who do you most admire and why?
A bit of a cop-out, but my admiration is very much for anyone who has worked hard, often through adversity, to achieve their dreams.
Where was the last place you travelled to for work or pleasure?
The last place I went to was Cyprus to attend the 2025 STEP Europe conference. Normally, one will meet adviser from other Common Law countries but there, it was fascinating to meet private wealth advisers from Civil Law jurisdictions and to hear what areas are of interest to them. I was also able to experience the warmth and hospitality of both the island and its people.
If you weren’t in this industry, what else might you be doing?
I wanted to be a lawyer from the age of 12 (sad, I know!). I really cannot imagine doing anything else. It has provided me with a varied career from corporate and sports lawyer, in-house counsel at a sports management company and Jersey fiduciary businesses, to Jersey advocate and adviser in the private wealth industry.
How do you relax after a long day?
As many may also say, it depends on the season. I am a fair-weather walker and do love to get out and about on our beautiful Island. Alternatively, I do like a glass of something (red, white or pink) and experiencing some of the lovely restaurants we have (several of which I am delighted to have as clients).
