Citywealth Leaders List, 60 seconds interview – Debbie Lumsden, VG Jersey
This week’s 60 seconds Citywealth Leaders List interview is dedicated to Debbie Lumsden, Director – Private Wealth at VG Jersey.

Tell Citywealth readers a bit about your role.
I’m a private wealth director at VG, a fiduciary business that supports international families, entrepreneurs and institutional clients with the stewardship of their wealth. My role combines strategy, governance and people leadership, ensuring we deliver exceptional client service while navigating an increasingly complex regulatory landscape.
What does a typical day look like for you?
A typical day is wonderfully varied, which is one of the reasons I love this industry. Every day is a balance between serving clients, leading our people and thinking about where the business needs to be in the future.
Tell us about some recent, interesting client instructions/requests you have received.
The most interesting instructions today tend to reflect the changing priorities of global families. Increasingly, conversations extend well beyond traditional wealth structuring and focus on governance, succession, family dynamics and legacy. We’ve recently supported clients through business exits, intergenerational transitions and the redesign of international holding structures in response to complex cross boarder issues.
What challenges do your clients face and how are you helping your clients to overcome them?
Complexity is undoubtedly the greatest challenge. Clients are navigating geopolitical uncertainty, regulatory change, increased transparency and rapidly evolving family dynamics, all while seeking stability over the long term. Our role is to simplify that complexity. We bring together technical expertise, commercial insight and practical advice to help clients make informed decisions
What is your proudest professional achievement?
Seeing people, I’ve worked with and mentored over the years who go on to build successful careers – it’s incredibly rewarding.
What do you consider to be the most important attributes for a leader?
Being authentic, having integrity, leading by example as well as being willing to listen, learn and adapt.
Who do you most admire and why?
My husband – who has to live with me!
Where was the last place you travelled to for work or pleasure?
Bordeaux for pleasure
If you weren’t in this industry, what else might you be doing?
Criminal barrister
How do you relax after a long day?
Run/sea swin
