Tell Citywealth readers a bit about your role.

I’m a Partner in the Private Client team at Hays Mac LLP specialising in entrepreneurial wealth and business disposals. I focus on the personal tax implications of transactions, supporting clients through the lifecycle of their businesses. I also focus on the sports and entertainment sector, advising athletes and talent on the tax aspects of their complex arrangements.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Having recently joined HaysMac, my days have been very people focused, whether that’s colleagues, clients or contacts. A large part of my time is spent understanding client’s objectives and providing proactive advice, translating complex tax matters into clear, practical guidance, which is best done in a meeting rather than an email.

Tell us about some recent, interesting client instructions/requests you have received.

I have recently been working on a large, multi-shareholder disposal involving cross-border elements and complexities around the timing of share awards. I have been working with multiple teams within HaysMac to deliver holistic advice around the associated employment and personal taxes, as well as collaborating with lawyers to ensure the Share Purchase Agreement is drafted appropriately to avoid adverse tax consequences.

What challenges do your clients face and how are you helping your clients to overcome them?

Tax can be highly complex and often overwhelming. Understanding the personal implications and ensuring accurate reporting to HMRC can be daunting. I support my clients by guiding them through the process, clearly explaining what’s required and providing ongoing advice to give them confidence at each stage of the process.

What is your proudest professional achievement?

Being ranked 5th in Accountancy Age’s top 35 under 35 was quite a proud moment for me.

What do you consider to be the most important attributes for a leader?

Communication is key, and it’s a two-way process. Actively listening to others and valuing their perspectives helps to strengthen the team as a whole. Creating a trusting environment where individuals feel empowered to contribute is essential to effective leadership.

Who do you most admire and why?

I admire the resilience in the entrepreneurial mindset. I have seen many people navigate setbacks in business, rebuilding or expanding to create stronger opportunities in the future. I particularly respect their willingness to confront the challenges head-on rather than avoid them. I am especially impresser by those who genuinely care about their teams, bringing people with them on the journey and building something together.

Where was the last place you travelled to for work or pleasure?

Prior to joining HaysMac, I took four weeks off to travel around New Zealand. We spent a lot of time hiking around the country and taking in some incredible views.

If you weren’t in this industry, what else might you be doing?

I like the idea of running a pub or restaurant. I enjoy being around people and have a real interest in food, so it feels like a natural fit.

How do you relax after a long day?

Spending time with friends and family, getting outside for a walk, or fitting in a few holes of golf if the weather allows.
