Tell Citywealth readers a bit about your role

I am a family law specialist and Partner at Stowe Family Law. My work focuses primarily on financial remedies following divorce, particularly in high-value cases involving complex asset structures. I also work on complicated and sensitive child arrangement disputes.

Family law is a uniquely personal area of practice because clients often come to us at one of the most difficult periods of their lives. My role is to guide them through that process with clarity and empathy while providing robust legal advice.

What does a typical day look like for you?

No two days are ever quite the same, which is one of the things I enjoy most about the role. My day is usually a combination of client work and managing my team. A typical day might involve client meetings, responding to emails, preparing court documents, or getting ready for hearings. Alongside that, I spend time supervising members of my team and discussing case strategy to ensure our clients are receiving the best possible advice. Family law often moves quickly and requires careful attention to detail, so balancing strategic thinking with immediate client needs is a key part of the job.

Tell us about some recent, interesting client instructions or requests you have received.

There are several trends emerging in family law at the moment that are particularly interesting.

One is the growing number of clients in their 60s and 70s choosing to divorce, often referred to as “silver separators”. These cases can involve unique issues, such as retirement planning, pension division, and how to fairly separate assets accumulated over several decades of marriage.

We are also seeing a notable increase in couples entering into prenuptial agreements. There is a growing awareness that having open conversations about finances at the start of a marriage can provide clarity and protection for both parties.

Another area that has become more prominent is cases involving coercive or controlling behaviour within relationships. These situations require careful handling, not only legally but also from a safeguarding perspective, and ensuring clients feel supported throughout the process.

What challenges do your clients face and how are you helping them overcome them?

Many of my clients are dealing with significant emotional and financial uncertainty. Divorce and separation can affect every aspect of someone’s life: their home, finances, family structure and future plans.

One of the biggest challenges is helping clients move from a position of uncertainty or conflict to a place where practical decisions can be made. I focus on providing clear, pragmatic advice so that clients understand their options and can make informed decisions about the next steps.

Where possible, I encourage constructive negotiation and resolution outside of court, but I also ensure clients feel confident that their position will be robustly represented if litigation becomes necessary. Ultimately, my aim is to guide clients through the process as smoothly as possible while achieving an outcome that allows them to move forward with confidence.

What is your proudest professional achievement?

Becoming a Partner at Stowe Family Law is certainly one of my proudest professional achievements. It represents not only years of hard work and dedication but also the trust placed in me by my colleagues and clients. It is incredibly rewarding to have the opportunity to help shape the direction of the firm while continuing to do the client work that I am passionate about.

What do you consider to be the most important attributes for a leader?

For me, the most important attributes are adaptability, flexibility and compassion. Legal practice can be demanding, and people perform at their best when they feel supported. A good leader should be someone their team feels comfortable approaching with questions or problems, and someone who is willing to listen and adapt when circumstances change.  Creating an environment where people feel valued and supported ultimately leads to stronger teams and better outcomes for clients.

Who do you most admire and why?

I most admire my parents. They came to the UK when they were young and built an entirely new life here for our family. Their resilience, work ethic and determination have always inspired me. They have also been my biggest supporters in everything I have done, and their encouragement has played a huge role in shaping my career and ambitions.

Where was the last place you travelled to for work or pleasure?

The last place I travelled to was Paris. We took the trip via LeShuttle so we could take our puppy on his first trip overseas.  It was a lovely break and a great way to introduce him to travelling, and we have a big road trip planned for the French Alps later this year!

If you weren’t in this industry, what else might you be doing?

It might sound ironic for a divorce lawyer, but I think I would probably be a wedding planner. I love planning and organising events, and I work well under pressure. It may seem like the opposite end of the relationship spectrum, but the organisational skills and attention to detail required are actually quite similar.

How do you relax after a long day?

After a long day, I usually like to go to the gym to reset. I also enjoy having dinner with my husband, catching up with family and friends, or relaxing at home with our dog after a long, stressful day.
