Leaders List interview: 60 seconds with Ilias Georgopoulos
This week’s 60-second piece is dedicated to Ilias Georgopoulos, Financial Services Advisor, Luxembourg

Tell Citywealth readers a bit about your role.
My role encompasses both private and institutional wealth holders, spanning from family offices to sovereign wealth funds and pension funds. My global approach to supporting asset owners is an integral component, utilising our complete cross-segment capabilities for an optimised delivery model.
What does a typical day look like for you?
My day is typically divided between three main areas. Firstly, follow market updates, listen to clients, and regulators to keep on top of what’s happening in the industry and to address client needs. Secondly, identify trends, opportunities and new strategies. Lastly, I oversee product innovation and creation, so we continue offering our clients a comprehensive and complete solution.
Tell us about some recent, interesting client instructions.
I can think of two examples. I was recently asked to assist a client with the set-up of an international family office in three continents between trusts, SPVs and private funds. Another example would be when a client asked for complete oversight support for a pension fund with control of all co-investments plus adequate reporting.
What challenges do your clients face and how are you helping your clients to overcome them?
The biggest challenge that all asset owners are currently facing is how geopolitical evolution combined with economic changes have set new paradigms within the industry. Indeed, asset owners by nature look for long-term performance and therefore stable environments. However, the current global situation may require agility and rapid change. We can help our clients with this due to our international presence in 25 jurisdictions combined with our complete governance and operational support on changes they may need.
What is your proudest professional achievement?
My greatest professional achievement is every time a client calls me to congratulate my team on work well done and to thanking me for supporting their ideas.
What do you consider to be the most important attributes for a leader?
Giving and not taking, and taking time to admire the positive evolution of your team.
Who do you most admire and why?
Wisdom, and I will tell you why when I get there.
Where was the last place you travelled to for work or pleasure?
New York, for work.
If you weren’t in this industry, what else might you be doing?
I would be in the food business. Good quality food is internationally recognised as an element of health, and eating with others is a shared moment of friendship. Gastronomy is appreciated by each and every individual around the world.
How do you relax after a long day?
Spending quality time with people I care deeply for.
