Blockchain interoperability and mergers & acquisitions are rapidly recasting the architecture of digital finance. As cross-chain bridges, messaging protocols and layer-2 aggregators mature, legal and compliance teams face thorny questions about liability, jurisdiction and regulatory alignment. At the same time, the wave of consolidations among crypto infrastructure firms, advisory practices and fintech players signals an industry maturing toward scale, integration and full-stack capability.
Meanwhile, macro dynamics are intensifying the stakes. Bitcoin’s renewed rally has drawn institutional capital and sharpened calls for legal certainty around digital assets. In the UK, regulators are moving toward regulating cryptoasset activity and stablecoin issuance, and proposals have floated caps on individual stablecoin holdings to guard against systemic risk. On the Channel Islands front, Lee Birkett’s Moneybrain has introduced GBPB, its pegged stablecoin dubbed the “Digital Pound,” backed 1:1 in sterling reserves. GBPB is intended for everyday payments and designed to operate within Jersey’s Virtual Asset framework, providing a live test case of how stablecoin regulation, infrastructure and usage may converge.
