Hong Kong’s private wealth industry is entering a significant period of generational change. Many of the fortunes created during China’s rapid economic expansion remain in the hands of first-generation entrepreneurs, and advisers are seeing growing demand around succession, trusts, family governance and the transfer of businesses and assets to the next generation. Research suggests the opportunity remains substantial: around two-thirds of high-net-worth individuals surveyed in Hong Kong and mainland China have yet to put a legacy plan in place, while many of Asia’s largest businesses remain under founder control. That transition is helping to drive activity across Hong Kong’s wider private wealth sector, from private banks and family offices to lawyers, trustees and tax advisers. Nearly half of Asian family offices surveyed were established within the past five years, while Hong Kong is positioning itself as a centre for cross-border wealth and succession planning. Citywealth’s Top 50 Asian Advisors and Managers 2026 recognises the professionals advising wealthy families as they prepare for one of the region’s largest transfers of privately held wealth.
