New York Top 20: The Networks Behind American Wealth
America’s wealthiest families are rarely connected to one state alone. Michael Dell, John and Laura Arnold, Fernando De Leon and the Bass family have all built their principal fortunes or businesses in Texas while retaining investments, family offices, philanthropy, property or cultural interests in New York.
The relationship also works in reverse. JPMorganChase employs about 30,000 people in Texas, while the Rockefeller Foundation and Bloomberg Philanthropies have funded projects in Houston. As we launch our New York Top 20, these connections show why the city remains central to American wealth. Families may move elsewhere, but New York continues to provide access to capital, advisers, investment firms and national institutions.
