Philip is an extraordinary advocate and unfailingly brings a new and thoughtful approach to the subject at hand. He is hard working, personable and very approachable. I have never failed to be impressed by his work at the highest level of the chancery bar and his drive and determination to succeed are palpable.

Peer review:
I have worked with Philip Marshall QC for over 15 years dealing with a variety of high value and complex litigation. Philip is a robust and incisive litigator and adopts a proactive approach to ensure that maximum pressure is exerted on opponents. Philip instils confidence in my clients and is always willing to take an holistic approach to my client's issues and consider the commercial parameters in deciding the best legal route to pursue to achieve my client's objectives.

Philip has a commanding presence in court and adapts his style of submissions depending on the Judge who is hearing the case; he has an authoritative manner in putting forward the legal submissions but is also willing to listen and respond to points put forward by the Judge.

Philip works closely with the legal team and client to develop the strategy and also to ensure that all aspects of the case are considered and properly implemented to ensure a successful outcome.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Philip to advise on any high value complex commercial litigation.

Peer review:
It is my very great pleasure to provide a reference on behalf of Philip Marshall QC. I have had the great pleasure of working closely with Philip for almost 30 years ' in fact we were first introduced in 1991 ' and he has for many years been one of the if not the first ports of call at QC level for the major international litigation and commercial fraud cases in which my firm specialises. Philip is an extraordinary talent ' immensely hard working and creative ' but most importantly he is an exceptional team player and truly inspirational to the entirety of the team working with him on a case. He is very well liked by the Judiciary and has an advocacy style that is attractive and compelling.

Case Studies

Russian businessmen dispute in the BVI

Philip Marshall QC represents the defendants and claimants by way of counterclaim and ancillary claim in proceedings in the BVI, in a dispute worth circa US$1 billion between two prominent Russian businessmen and associated parties concerning a joint venture in relation to various power generation and distribution assets in Russia (Renova Industries Ltd & ors v Emmerson International Corporation & ors). The proceedings involve contractual claims and claims for breach of trust and dishonest assistance, deceit, conspiracy to injure and other economic torts. Freezing and disclosure orders have been obtained, and the case has provided the first major decision in the BVI on disclosure to assist a decision whether to apply for a freezing order.
