Restructuring Hong Kong trusts for a private real estate developer

Advising a Hong Kong private real estate developer on the restructuring of various trusts involving large scale real estate portfolio worth USD1 billion in Hong Kong for succession planning and tax efficiency purposes. This involves restructuring of multiple loans, distributions of shares and investment portfolio to beneficiaries (with such distributions successfully adjudicated by the Stamp Office), winding up of trusts and liquidation of private trust companies. Stamp duty exemption was initially denied but was appealed and successfully obtained subsequently. The jurisdictions involved in this matter include BVI, Cayman, Liberia and Hong Kong.

USD250 million acquisition of a hotel in Canada by a Hong Kong based family

Advising on the USD250 million acquisition of a hotel in Canada using a trust structure to address compliance, confidentiality and tax concerns for a Hong Kong based family.

Advising a single family office

Advising a single family office with over US$5 billion in assets in Hong Kong, U.K., U.S. and Canada in all matters including tax, compliance, investment structures and M&A, litigation, succession planning and management matters. Because of the jurisdictions and nature of work involved, we work extensively with foreign counsel and other advisors as needed to ensure the client‘s objectives are met.

Reorganising assets into a trust

Advising a well-known entrepreneur in PRC in analyzing the taxation and overseas investment of family members. We designed and implemented the reorganization of approximately US$ 3 billion of assets into an offshore family trust.
