Restructuring Hong Kong trusts for a private real estate developer
Advising a Hong Kong private real estate developer on the restructuring of various trusts involving large scale real estate portfolio worth USD1 billion in Hong Kong for succession planning and tax efficiency purposes. This involves restructuring of multiple loans, distributions of shares and investment portfolio to beneficiaries (with such distributions successfully adjudicated by the Stamp Office), winding up of trusts and liquidation of private trust companies. Stamp duty exemption was initially denied but was appealed and successfully obtained subsequently. The jurisdictions involved in this matter include BVI, Cayman, Liberia and Hong Kong.
