Tell Citywealth readers a bit about your role.

I am Sean Taylor, Director of Intermediary Sales in the Wealth Management team at Arbuthnot Latham, a private and commercial bank with over 190 years of heritage. I focus on building strong partnerships with professional intermediaries such as financial advisors and planners, helping them deliver tailored (no pun intended!) wealth solutions to their HNW clients. It’s all about combining personal touch with expertise to drive growth and client satisfaction.

What does a typical day look like for you?

There’s no such thing as a typical day –that’s the great thing about Arbuthnot.  With a One Bank approach to intermediaries, any given day could see me working with colleagues across the bank’s different teams, meaning I am learning all the time!

Tell us about some recent, interesting client instructions/requests you have received.

Recently, an intermediary requested a complex banking and investment solution for a HNW family in the process of selling their business. We structured a tailored investment package, including a blend of cash solutions through to detailed investment portfolios for the family, effectively future proofing them.

What challenges do your clients face and how are you helping your clients to overcome them?

Right now, clients are facing tax changes, market volatility, and global political machinations. The sheer amount of information is overwhelming for many families. We help intermediaries navigate 2025’s economic shifts with confidence, decipher the signals, and prepare their clients for the future.

What is your proudest professional achievement?

Winning the title of ‘Best Industry Commentator’ at the 2025 City of London Wealth Management Awards for the second year in a row was definitely a proud moment – but as I reflect, being selected by my peers to serve as Chair of the DFM Connect group has to be the most special of all.

What do you consider to be the most important attributes for a leader?

A great leader needs vision, empathy, and decisiveness- whether working with clients or colleagues, these attributes can be summed up best by the phrase ‘Serve to Lead’.

Who do you most admire and why?

I admire many – from Mandela’s unwavering integrity to Churchill’s bold vision – but T.E. Lawrence, as depicted in Lawrence of Arabia, has always stood out to me. He reflects the resilience and sense of opportunity my parents encouraged in me growing up. His ability to navigate complex alliances reminds me of the challenges advisors face today in the client landscape, turning obstacles into meaningful outcomes. That same mindset continues to shape how I approach my work.

Where was the last place you travelled to for work or pleasure?

I recently visited Malta to see some friends and was captivated by its rich history and Mediterranean charm. Its vibrant atmosphere and strategic location make it the perfect destination for a short, inspiring getaway.

If you weren’t in this industry, what else might you be doing?

If I weren’t in this sector, I would have likely pursued a career as a diplomat, an idea that has grown on me over time. My mother always pictured me as a soldier or lawyer. Achieved 1 of 2! Mind you, working in finance has required a blend of strategic negotiation and global perspective, which is why it is such a great industry to be in.

How do you relax after a long day?

After a long day I unwind by taking my amazing dog, Daisy, for a walk. It never fails to lift my spirits. When I’m not scribbling down thoughts or diving into a good book, you may also find me supporting one of the charities where I am a trustee, finding purpose in giving back, or out shooting.

If you could recommend one person in the private wealth industry who would it be, and what would you say about them?

If I am not allowed to recommend someone in my own team, I would recommend Gillian Fletcher, a partner at Wilsons Solicitors LLP. Gillian embodies enduring professionalism, as a trusted confidante to charities, HNW philanthropists, and family offices navigating the labyrinth of governance, compliance, and reputational safeguards. Her expertise spans everything from establishing new charitable entities and resolving breaches of trust, to handling conflicts of interest and serious incident reporting. In my view, she is an architect of wealth preservation.
