Citywealth Leaders List, 60 second interview – Grace Quinn, Conyers
This week’s 60 seconds Citywealth Leaders List interview is dedicated to Grace Quinn, Private Client & Trust Senior Associate at Conyers.

Tell Citywealth readers a bit about your role.
I’m a Senior Associate in the Conyers’ Private Client and Trust Practice. Conyers is an ‘offshore’ law firm headquartered in Bermuda, which is where I am based. I work on a wide variety of trust related matters which include both advance planning for clients, restructuring where required and terminations where appropriate.
What does a typical day look like for you?
At home, I’m normally woken up by my toddler and then spend the morning getting everyone out the door on time to the right place with the right ‘stuff’! Once that is done and I’m at my desk (with a coffee!!) I assess my inbox and calendar first thing to remind myself what the day holds and what needs to be prioritised. As an offshore firm our clients are truly all over the world, so I try and schedule my calls and responses to tie in with their time zones. The day can include a mix of video calls and in person meetings as well as some local in-person networking.
Tell us about some recent, interesting client instructions/requests you have received.
At the moment I am working on a fairly urgent matter to remediate a Bermuda trust where there is only one active trustee, there is no protector, the local real estate is vested in the names of previous trustees and the underlying company has no directors or officers. It has taken quite a lot of research and discussion to determine that a Court application is the most appropriate step in this particular situation. While we generally seek to resolve matters without the need for Court given the associated expense, it is necessary for this particular matter and is the best option for all parties involved. We were provided with a Court date on Thursday morning and were in Court for a substantive hearing the following Tuesday!
What challenges do your clients face and how are you helping your clients to overcome them?
One of the big challenges our clients face is trying to manage their wealth and plan for the next generation. We try and encourage our clients to be open with their family members and beneficiaries regarding their wishes during their lifetimes as well as keeping trust documents and letters of wishes to date. Even with the best of intentions it can sometimes be impossible to avoid disharmony when the matriarch / patriarch dies but we try to do as much as we can as professionals to mitigate and plan for this.
What is your proudest professional achievement?
This is such a hard question because I feel like I have more to achieve! I suspect it would be qualifying as a solicitor in England & Wales. That was the first step in my professional journey.
What do you consider to be the most important attributes for a leader?
Patience, empathy and a strong moral compass.
Who do you most admire and why?
My grandmother who I am named after. She has now passed but she was a great source of strength and constancy in my life. She had an extremely difficult early life and had a remarkable ability to bring anyone she met down to earth. She also coined the immortal phrase that “tea was too wet on it’s own” – i.e. you need a biscuit to go with it.
Where was the last place you travelled to for work or pleasure?
I recently went on a Disney Cruise with my family. My toddler absolutely loved it! The food was good, there was childcare available and it was a really relaxing and fun holiday (despite some inclement weather!).
If you weren’t in this industry, what else might you be doing?
Possibly a social worker or a teacher.
How do you relax after a long day?
I’m not sure one can relax with a toddler!
