Citywealth Leaders List, 60 seconds interview – Andrew Harrison, EY
This week’s 60 seconds Citywealth Leaders List interview is dedicated to Andrew Harrison, US-UK Cross Border Private Client Tax at EY.

Tell Citywealth readers a bit about your role.
I’ve recently joined EY as a Partner in the US-UK Cross Border Private Client Tax team, based in London. I co-lead the high-net-worth offering, focusing on advising internationally mobile individuals—particularly US-connected clients—on complex cross-border tax matters. This includes everything from pre-immigration planning through to structuring investments, managing transactions, and navigating ongoing compliance.
What does a typical day look like for you?
No two days are the same, which is one of the aspects I enjoy most. My time is typically split between working with clients on complex advisory matters, collaborating with colleagues in other areas of tax and across jurisdictions, and supporting the development of our growing team and offering. There’s also a strong focus on staying ahead of regulatory and legislative changes that impact our clients.
Tell us about some recent, interesting client instructions/requests you have received.
Many of our recent engagements involve advising individuals ahead of relocating between the US and the UK, particularly around pre-immigration tax planning and structuring investments in a tax-efficient way. We’re also seeing increasing demand from fund executives and internationally mobile families seeking joined-up advice on cross-border income, asset structuring, and long-term planning.
What challenges do your clients face and how are you helping them to overcome them?
Clients are facing increasingly complex cross-border tax environments, with overlapping rules, evolving legislation, and greater scrutiny from tax authorities. We help navigate this complexity by providing clear, coordinated advice across jurisdictions, ensuring clients understand both the risks and opportunities, and can make informed decisions with confidence.
What is your proudest professional achievement?
Building long-term, trusted relationships with clients is something I’m particularly proud of. Being able to support individuals and families through significant life decisions—often across multiple jurisdictions—and seeing the positive outcomes of that work is incredibly rewarding.
What do you consider to be the most important attributes for a leader?
Clarity, integrity, and collaboration. A strong leader needs to set a clear direction, build trust within their team, and foster an environment where people feel empowered to contribute and develop. In a global business, collaboration is especially critical.
Who do you most admire and why?
Someone who has received some well-deserved fanfare recently, Sir David Attenborough. My kids love him too and it’s incredible what an impact he has had across three or even four generations.
Where was the last place you travelled to for work or pleasure?
My family and I are love a ‘staycation’ – there are so many wonderful places to visit in the UK. Our last family holiday was in the New Forest and my children were very proud to say that they saw all of the New Forest ‘Big Five’ (ponies, donkeys, cows, deer and pigs)! For work I’ve been lucky enough to travel all over the world
If you weren’t in this industry, what else might you be doing?
I’ve always been drawn to problem-solving and strategy, so I imagine I’d have pursued a similarly analytical, advisory role. I spent some time working in-house at a large consulting firm, which I really enjoyed, and that experience reinforced how much I value solving complex challenges in a collaborative environment.
How do you relax after a long day?
I try to switch off by spending time with family and friends, and whenever possible, getting outdoors. It’s important to step away and recharge, particularly in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
