Sherri Cohen is a global thought leader on legal and art market issues. She is a US- and UK-dual qualified attorney, driving new business with a focus on the trust and estates community and international auction markets including ownership, valuation, and authenticity. She is a passionate senior executive known for developing creative, compelling solutions to celebrate clients’ property and their legacy.
Responsible for leading the US, UK and European teams in the Fiduciary Client Group and Restitution, Sherri closely collaborates with Sotheby’s Specialist Departments and Chairmen to assist lawyers, bankers, family offices, and fiduciaries in planning for the lifecycle of their clients’ art collections through Sotheby’s broad range of services.
Prior to joining Sotheby’s, Sherri was Head of Business Development for North America at Bonhams. During her tenure with Bonhams, she served as the firm’s principal deal maker for major estate and single owner collections and brought some of the most significant collections to Bonhams salerooms including Dr. Hirose’s Kusama Collection and the L.D.” Brink” Brinkman Collection.
Before working in the auction industry, Sherri served as Chief Underwriting Counsel at ARIS, an A-rated art title insurance company, where she led the due diligence on complex global art transactions. Previously, Sherri worked at a New York state agency helping claimants to recover property which was lost, looted, or sold under duress from 1933 to 1945 due to Nazi persecution. She started her career as an Associate at the international law firm, Jones Day and worked on litigation, arbitration, art law and corporate matters.
Sherri is an active member of numerous organizations including boards of the Trusts and Estates Magazine, Estate Planning Council of New York City, Inc., Emory University Dean’s Council and UJA-Federation of New York. Sherri has spoken before bar associations, museum groups and academic institutions as well as authored numerous articles. She earned her undergraduate degree with a double major in Art History and Political Science from Emory University, followed by a law degree from American University Washington College of Law.
