Rachel Steeden is Head of Legal of a major UK Charity that manages funds donated for charitable purposes. I was in direct contact with her, from May 2021 through to February 2025, in my role as executor of a close friend who had willed a generous sum to charity. This was a complex case as the deceased assets were situated in two countries. It was further complicated by poor communication with, and incorrect advice received from, the overseas lawyers. Rachel’s legal expertise and experience was invaluable. She was firm and persistent with the legal firms involved. Her input was particularly appreciated when the advice of the overseas lawyer concerning inheritance tax rates was proved to be incorrect. A substantial reduction in tax was successfully achieved. I received prompt replies in my communications with Rachel with her offer of further help when needed. The estate was finally wound up and legacies paid to various legatees. Rachel maintained a positive and calm attitude despite the unforeseen problems. I was grateful for her friendly approach, and professional skill, throughout the complex process.
