Crowe UK named climate and sustainability champion of the year 2023
Leading audit, tax, advisory and risk firm, Crowe UK, wins two prestigious awards at InsuranceERM’s inaugural Global Climate Risk and Sustainability Awards 2023.

Fending off competition from other major consultancy firms, Crowe’s Risk Consulting Team tops off a highly successful 2023 by not only scooping two major sustainability awards but by earning InsuranceERM’s ‘Consultancy of the Year’ for the fourth consecutive time in February.
Hindson marks his first year of his tenure as the firm’s Head of Sustainability by winning the 2023 Climate and Sustainability Champion of the Year award. He scooped the title having proven himself as a highly experienced and effective risk and sustainability professional who is passionate about helping businesses build a sustainable future, according to InsuranceERM.
Spanning 16 categories for company, individual and team performances, the inaugural Global Climate Risk and Sustainability Awards recognise excellence, leadership and innovation in climate risk management and sustainability.
Over the last year, Hindson, along with Justin Elks, Partner, and Crowe’s Head of Risk Consulting, have cemented the firm’s leading role in supporting clients in delivering their climate and ESG programmes. Ranging from project mobilisation and wider project management, the team is helping clients meet industry and regulatory demands to improve their resilience and adaptability in an uncertainty and very fast-evolving climate risk landscape.
The recent announcement of Crowe as ClimateWise’s strategic partner to review its climate change disclosure framework – for its growing global network of leading insurance industry organisations – reflects the firm’s expertise in delivering tangible value to help businesses meet the challenges happening now and in the future.
Crowe’s range of skills was also instrumental in supporting clients’ proactive engagement with the Bank of England’s climate biennial exploratory scenario exercise to identify the financial risks posed by climate change.
Commenting on receiving the inaugural Climate and Sustainability Champion of the Year Award, Alex Hindson, Crowe UK’s Partner and Head of Sustainability, said:
“I am humbled to have won the inaugural Climate and Sustainability Champion award by InsuranceERM.
“Voted for by global senior insurance and sustainability experts, this award recognises the hard work and achievements of my colleagues and I throughout my time at Crowe. I would like to thank all those who supported my nomination, and I was touched by their kind words.
“The industry is moving into a very challenging and unrelenting phase where organisations need to start delivering on their climate and sustainability goals. This requires the right expertise to provide leadership and a steady hand, and with my colleagues at Crowe, we can help businesses across the country become part of the solution in tackling one of the greatest challenges facing humanity.”
Justin Elks, commenting on the firm being crowed Consultancy at the Global Climate Risk and Sustainability Awards:
“It’s a great honour for Crowe to have been awarded climate and sustainability consultancy of the year by InsuranceERM, in the inaugural year of these global awards.
“We started our sustainability practice less than four years ago, with a view that clients needed practical, pragmatic advice and support on this complex topic – it’s been a privilege to help our clients make a difference by putting sustainability at the heart of their organisations, while helping Crowe with this challenge too.”
InsuranceERM’s deputy editor and commercial editor, Ronan McCaughey, said:
“Winning an InsuranceERM climate risk and sustainability award is a marvellous achievement and recognises you as leader in your class. These awards celebrate pioneering individuals, teams and companies that are truly addressing climate and sustainability risk in the insurance industry.
“The long-term commitment of our winners to climate and sustainability and their exceptional innovation makes them worthy winners. Given the world is in a state of climate emergency, we need people like this more than ever.”
