Southwest booming thanks to local entrepreneurs

Wealth advisers in the Southwest of the UK are enjoying some of their busiest times for years, with accountants, lawyers and private bankers in and around Bristol, Bath and Exeter all reporting buoyant activity.

UBS Wealth Management is the latest manager to focus on the region, having decided a few years ago that it was time to add a Southwest presence to its roster of regional capabilities. Martyn Begbour was hired from Coutts & Co at the end of 2011 to launch and lead a new team dedicated to the Southwest, and he’s since been joined by Lloyd-Cossins-Price and Toby Johnson, both client advisers for the Southwest. For now, they are based in London, using serviced office space locally and travelling extensively to meet clients, but there are plans for a permanent site.

Jonathan Brown, head of regions at UBS Wealth Management UK, says: “We are seeing strong growth across our regional business, and the Southwest is the fastest growing area of our regional business, corroborating our decision to have a dedicated resource.”

UBS currently has operations in the Midlands, Northeast, Northwest, Scotland and Yorkshire, and has doubled its new client business in the regions in the last five years, with hopes of doubling it again in the next four.
