The Atlantic Hotel, one of Jersey's most beautiful boutique hotels, combines fine dining with beautiful views over St Ouen's Bay. Its Ocean Restaurant, that has retained a Michelin Star since 2007, has also been awarded four Rosettes in the AA Restaurant Guide 2016, making it Jersey’s culinary highlight.
Ocean’s executive head chef Mark Jordan (pictured) has created a beautifully sophisticated, elegant space, complimented by stunning views over the sea. It was a glorious evening with the light reflecting through the white American shutters. The scene was set and expectations were high.
With the food menu and extensive wine list in hand, we had some tough decisions to make. Whilst we deliberated our amuse bouche (Pimm's jelly with a lemon foam) gave us a taste of what was to come. Mark Jordan is passionate about working with a network of island producers, using the best local ingredients from Jersey’s coast and countryside and this is certainly reflected in the food. To start I opted for the lobster and my guest chose the squid risotto. Both were delicious but the squid risotto really made it clear why this restaurant has retained its Michelin star for eleven years. Of similar quality were the mains, the highlight being the beef with marmite. Definitely all love and no hate here.
As our evening drew to an end we finished with macerated strawberries accompanied by a basil sorbet and an impressive cheeseboard - one of the best I've seen.
The Atlantic Hotel is also the host of the annual Eat Jersey Food Festival from Thursday 3rd November to Sunday 6th November. Head chef Jordan will be joined for a second year by a prestigious line-up of renowned chefs from the Channel Islands and Britain in a celebration of the gourmet produce and fine-dining in Jersey.
