Low-cal gourmet menu for the diet-conscious

Date: 24 Apr 2014

Sofitel London St James started the New Year with the launch of a new De-Light menu that will help to shed the pounds gained over the festive season, while still entertaining stylishly.

The calorie content of each dish is conveniently noted on the menu, so guests can discreetly add them up as they eat their way through a delicious three-course meal without exceeding 500 – 600 calories.

Avoiding produce with high fat content and focusing on spices and healthy cooking methods such as roasting, steaming and poaching, the menu at The Balcony restaurant of this French five-star luxury hotel offers a mouth-watering selection of low-calorie dishes.

I tried the Baked Tomato filled with Tuna Mousse on Cucumber Tartar, a light but very tasty starter and a mere 65 calories, followed by Seared Cornish Sea Bass Fillet with Macedoine of Fennels and Turnips and Red Beetroot Caramel Sauce (225 calories).

I could then indulge without guilt to finish with a delicious dessert, and chose the Molten Mango Cake with a Light Coconut Ice Cream (130 calories). The total intake of only 420 calories, that left me feeling surprisingly full, still allowed room for a glass of champagne to add extra sparkle to the new dining experience.

The De-Light menu was originally launched at Sofitel Quiberon Thalassa in 2010, the well-known nutrition and wellness spa in France, experts in thalassotherapy and wellbeing for over 40 years.

It is available across a selection of Sofitel hotels around the world.
