Tell Citywealth’s readers about your role.
I am a Partner of four at LINDEMANNLAW, we are 18 people at the firm in Zurich.
My role consists in advising on capital market law, which includes licenses for regulated entities like external asset managers and trustees here in Switzerland, Liechtenstein and other jurisdictions. I also advise international entrepreneurs on all aspects including real estate transactions, M&A, escrow, issuance of capital and NFT, relocation of companies and families in and out of Switzerland. Thanks to my long-standing corporate experience, I sit on the board of a number of companies, some regulated, some listed. My clients are mainly from the UK, Switzerland, Monaco, few from Poland, the Czech Republic, Middle East.
What are the most pressing issues you are dealing with in your role at the moment?
There are deadlines by FINMA, the Swiss regulator, for external asset managers and trustees which need to be adhered to, there are clients – whilst not under sanctions – who need to restructure their firms to continue unhampered operations. One client wants to create a charity under Swiss law before the end of the year, another intends to set up a single-family office in Monaco. There is a large inheritance case which also needs to be settled before the end of the year.
How would your clients describe you?
I think the main adjectives would be reliable, resourceful, rapid.
What are the most important skills and personal qualities to succeed in your role?
Active listening, analytical skills, know-how and knowledge, large and competent network of clients and specialists, unconditional commitment.
ESG: Are your clients familiar with ESG? Are they behaving differently in the present scenario?
Yes, many of my clients are, as I also have family offices as clients. Currently, we have more clients enquiring how to set up ESG standards on corporate or investment level.
What is the most valuable piece of advice you have been given?
Insist on advance payment (which is recommended by Swiss professional law and the Swiss lawyers’ association).
