If you are in the midst of planning your next holiday, take a moment to stop. What impact could your vacation have on the planet?

If you are looking for a country escape, then look no further than Wilderness Reserve’s recently launched Chapel Barn estate. Set on over 5,000 magnificent acres of carefully maintained Suffolk countryside, which was created with the help of eminent landscape architect Kim Wilkie, there are plenty of accommodation options to suit every taste and household size.
Visit their instagram page for some envy inducing images.
Accommodation options range from the one-bed electricity-free Hovel, set by the lake, through to Chapel Barn itself, which comes with 18 en-suite bedrooms. All seven properties may be rented individually – for one night to one month – though the estate hits a high note when booked exclusively, with space for up to 90 overnight guests. Each building has been sensitively restored, employing the traditional methods of local artisans. Chapel Barn (once a 15th-century farmstead) has all the charm of its heritage intact and yet comes with a host of luxury facilities, including an indoor swimming pool, cinema, gym and spa.
If you’re hoping to make your friends jealous online, then choose the insta-worthy Moat Cottage. It’s pink, surrounded by a ring of water (filled with wildlife) and is found on top of its own little hill. Hot tub, boat house, row boat and views in all directions.
A sustainability ethos
Conservation and sustainability are central tenets of its ethos: over one million trees have already been planted and things aren’t slowing down.
Chapel Barn channels the landscaping principles of Capability Brown: cattle and sheep graze the valley sides around the estate’s expansive lake and woodland, wild flower meadows inject colour in spring, while a traditional Suffolk apple orchard flourishes every autumn.
Outdoor activities and country pursuits
Stand-up paddleboarding, clay-pigeon shooting and axe throwing meet spa treatments, bonfire experiences and child-friendly owl encounters. Activities are Wilderness Reserve’s way of making the most of the abundant English nature in and around the estate.
Guests can also enjoy simple bike rides around the estate on their own traditional Pashley bicycles. Chapel Barn is equally suited to those keen on doing very little. This is an opportunity to reconnect with nature and those important to you in the peace and seclusion of your own private estate.
Food & drink
Possibly the estate’s strongest suit, dining experiences range from six-course tasting menus to luxury hampers delivered to your door. The most exciting prospect, though, are its fire feasts by the lake: flamed local produce served on sharing platters at delicately decorated long tables.
Where is it?
Near the village of Heveningham in Suffolk, a little over two hours from London by train or car. Transfers can be arranged from Darsham station, a few miles from the estate.
How do I book?

And one last thing...
Chapel Barn Estate is not a hotel. Rather, it is a charming collection of private properties available to hire individually or together on an exclusive-use basis. English cottage and country house holidays taken to a new level.
