Hotel Castello Di Casole

Date: 26 Apr 2014

Citywealth

It is said that the ancient Etruscans expressed a desire for heaven to be the same as the place they would leave behind. When you travel through the heart of Tuscany, you are immersed in landscape, unchanged for thousands of years, which is quite literally heaven on Earth.

Castello Di Casole sits proudly in its own estate, on a hill in the very heart of the ravishing Tuscan countryside. In every direction, olive groves, vineyards, and cypress trees make up the rich layers of colour rising up from the famously fertile earth.

Once owned by the noble Bargagli family of Sienna, this beautiful castle has recently been painstakingly restored and transformed into a five-star boutique hotel and luxury spa. The gentle drive through the estate, with deer grazing either side, doesn’t quite prepare you for the initial impact of this imposing building. There is a warm glow emanating from within: a combination of magical lighting throughout and the heartfelt greeting from the delightful staff.

At Castello Di Casole they seem committed to making you feel relaxed and welcome from the moment you arrive. As you are invited to sink into a soft sofa in the library, a glass of excellent Prosecco is served, whilst checking-in formalities are carried out almost without your involvement.

Care and attention

Every inch of this place has been lovingly renovated with remarkable attention to detail. Every touch is original, authentic and sourced locally without compromising the experience of glamour combined with comfort.

Bedrooms range from suites within the castle, to more secluded apartments in the olive groves, to the charming adaptation of the Limonia or original lemon store. There are also stunning farm houses in which to stay, dotted around the estate.

Without exception, The bedroom suites, with vaulted ceilings and original beams are designed for you to sleep in splendour. Beds are large and blissfully comfortable. The quality of the fittings from the local alabaster to the Italian linen, is evident. Bowls of fruit, sweets, toiletries in the bathroom and hand selected books, offered in abundance and in a spirit of generosity.

The main Ristorante Tosca is an experience of fine Italian dining. Here they focus on locally sourced, organic produce, homemade pasta and house-baked breads. Fruits and vegetables are grown in the castle gardens. The extra virgin olive oil is produced just a stone’s throw away.

Special taster menus are a regular feature of Ristorante Tosca. Seasonal delicacies such as truffles or Tuscan beans are given centre stage with a special menu designed to offer the diner the complete experience of that particular ingredient.

In a region blessed with some of the best wines in the world, it could almost go without saying that every course is perfectly paired with recommended wines, handpicked by the estate’s expert sommelier.

Scenic bliss

The views from all directions are ravishing, whether on rising early amidst the morning mist as it wreaths the rolling hills, or watching the sun setting across the large infinity pool.

Consistent with the forethought in designing the hotel, a notable feature is the way the owners have created a terrace area, where the effect is to bring indoor comfort to an outdoor setting.

If more divine relaxation exercise and pampering are required, the Essere spa awaits. With every detail crafted to make you feel embraced in a sense of well being from the modern, well-equipped gym to yoga and pilates, the spa also offers a very comprehensive range of treatments. Inspired by essential fragrances, herbs and oils of the region, a visitor to Castello Di Casole would find it very hard to resist.
