This January, Hakkasan will mark Chinese New Year with a celebration of the traditional lucky Chinese knot, alongside a limited-edition signature menu designed to reflect good health and fortune for the year ahead. Hakkasan’s Chinese New Year celebrations will run from Monday January 13th until Sunday February 9th.
Intricate and rich in symbolism, the Chinese knot signifies good luck and a prosperous life, highlighted throughout Hakkasan globally for Chinese New Year with interior decorations and a delicious Chinese New Year menu. According to legend, the colour red represents luck, so to embody this theme Hakkasan will be decorated with red wishing ribbons featuring the lucky Chinese knot. The design will also be emblazoned on the celebratory signature menus. Diners will be encouraged to write their wishes for the year ahead on the ribbons to be hung on the restaurant’s wooden latticing.
The signature menu will connote impressive craftsmanship, created by Hakkasan’s corporate executive chef, Andrew Yeo, showcasing his creative culinary expertise and theatrical focus. Each dish will be a colourful representation of different elements of the Chinese lunar calendar, with highlights including the Golden treasure pockets with abalone and wild mushrooms, decorated with gold leaf and presented as a money bag to reflect wealth; and the Wok-fry Scottish scallop with taro mousseline and brown butter black bean sauce, the scallops symbolising new opportunities, making them a prized dish during Chinese New Year. The centre piece of the menu is the indulgent and eye-catching Lucky Jie dessert, presented as a lucky Chinese knot to signify good fortune for the year ahead. The Lucky Jie is a salted caramel ganache with mandarin, chili and cocoa.
Hakkasan’s signature cocktail Cheng Zi (£18) will make the perfect addition to a celebratory Chinese New Year meal, made with Diplomático Mantuano rum, chilli-infused Velvet Falernum, mandarin and chocolate.
Hakkasan invites guests to celebrate the year ahead with its three-course signature menu, priced at £88 per person for a minimum of two people, not including the Cheng Zi cocktail. All dishes are available to order a la carte as well as part of the signature menu.
