Bambusa, a Modern Asian Café

Launching today, Bambusa is a new all-day Modern Asian café, open for breakfast, coffee and lunch, to go. Located on Charlotte Street in Fitzrovia, the casual grab-and-go location offers Asian inspired dishes, prepared freshly.

Bambusa is the first café site by restaurateur Rohit Chugh, founder of Roti Chai (Marylebone) and Chai Ki (Canary Wharf) and features breakfast and lunch menus, pastries and signature coffee.

The Food

Rohit has spent months with his team developing the menu for Bambusa, which is inspired by a love of the flavours and food he enjoyed when travelling and working for several years in Japan, Singapore, Laos and across Asia.

Dishes are home-style and based on recipes shared with Rohit by friends and their families. Fermentation and umami are key elements of the food at Bambusa, which features ingredients including kimchi, miso and nam pla, all highly regarded for their health benefits as well as adding depth of flavour.

The breakfast menu includes Sriracha Egg Scramble Buns, Kewpie Mayo Omelette Sliders and Chia Coconut Yoghurt, along with fresh pastries from artisan East London bakery Galeta.

Available from midday, the lunch menu offers the chance to build your own lunch box to go with all options either gluten or dairy free. Seasonal options are available from the counter, including Sushi Rice or Salad Leaves; served with a choice of Ginger Shoyu Chicken (roasted chicken thighs with soy, mirin, orange zest, sesame and ginger), Chilli Bean Tofu (silken tofu with salted chilli peppers), Kimchi BBQ Jackfruit (baked jackfruit with live fermented kimchi and red chilli gochujang) and Nam Pla Chicken Salad (smoked chicken breast with lemongrass, chilli, fresh mint and ‘nam-pla’ fish sauce).

Toppings, sides and sauces include Furikake (Japanese seaweed seasoning), Orange Sesame Slaw and Ponzu Citrus Dressing. Seasonal specials are planned, alongside future collaborations with other restaurants and chefs.

The Drinks

Freshly brewed coffee and matcha are available throughout the day from a dedicated counter towards the front of the café, together with fresh pastries.

Coffee at Bambusa is brewed with a bespoke dark roasted Monsoon Malabar blend, known for its distinctive soft rounded flavour with nutty notes and a clean finish. Other hot drinks include Matcha Latte and Milk Oolong tea, all served in biodegradable cups.

Chilled drinks options include cold brew coffee alongside Bambusa’s house Matcha Oat Milk.
