Citywealth is delighted to open its fourth year awards programme to champion women in the wealth sector and highlight the female leaders of today and tomorrow. The awards spotlight individuals and companies who support care giving responsibilities, female leadership, and celebrate diversity. Globally, women hold approximately one in five senior management roles, and fewer than one in ten businesses have a female CEO; of Financial Times top 500 companies, women represent 1.8% of CEOs and hold 10% of board seats. By working together and inclusively we can do so much more. In 2012, a Dow Jones study found that the overall median proportion of female executives is 7.1% at successful companies and 3.1% at unsuccessful companies, demonstrating the value that having more females can potentially bring to a management team.

Therefore, the Powerwomen Awards 2017 will both recognise individuals and companies who maximise the potential of women in wealth, and will also create a platform for best practice to collectively exercise positive social influence on the sector.

Awards categories and criteria

 

Entry criteria

Any organisation or individual may enter themselves for any of the awards. Organisations may put forward entries for multiple awards as appropriate. We also welcome your nominations for any organisation or individual you think is deserving of recognition at these prestigious awards.

The judges

An independent panel of industry judges determines the winners. The 2017 judging panel will be announced in May 2016. Additionally, the shortlist is published online and online voting will take place. The online vote carries the weight of one additional judge. Over 17,500 votes were received for 2016 contests.
Awards will go to those organisations/individuals that are recognised by peers and clients as demonstrating excellence under the relevant criteria below. Submissions should have statistics and metrics to support them:

• Having outstanding female leadership with metrics to demonstrate growth or revenue development
• Consistent female promotion rates
• New initiatives to help parents with flexibility
• Engagement with outreach initiatives aimed at black, minority and ethnic communities
• Dynamic mentors or sponsors demonstrating the two way relationship that has been built
• Running a successful internal women’s network
• Specific gender programmes and communication of them internally
• Clear policies and how they are implemented for female career advancement

General guidelines

• Ensure the submission includes administration contact and email address
• Each entry must be in the form of a written submission of no more than 1000 words. The judges are looking for concise written submissions and your entry should cover as many of the listed criteria as possible.
• Please ensure each item of your submission has the following information clearly printed: category name, name of entering company/firm and contact.
• Please ensure you include what associations and registrations you are a member of.
• When nominating a third party, please provide as much information as possible. Contact details for the nominee are mandatory.

A leader is a person who has a vision, a drive and a commitment to achieve that vision, and the skills to make business growth and change happen. Leaders should exercise positive social influence. This should be supported by metrics which demonstrate growth or revenue development or other metrics as entrants deem appropriate over the past 12 months.

 

Company of the Year: Female Leadership (Professional Services)

Judges would like to hear about successful companies with outstanding female leaders. Judges would like to hear about successful companies with outstanding programmes, mentoring and sponsorship aimed at encouraging, promoting or retaining women. Judges would like to hear about how these initiatives. This should be supported by metrics which demonstrate growth or revenue development or other metrics as entrants deem appropriate over the past 12 months.

 

Best Employer: Mentoring /Sponsoring programmes

Sponsors are advocates in positions of authority who use their influence intentionally to help others advance, while mentors provide advice, feedback, and coaching.

Best Employer: Working parents initiative – successful impact

This is aimed at initiatives launched in the last 3 years. Citywealth Supporting Women in Wealth Awards aims to neutralise attitudes within corporates that might stigmatise individuals with care giving responsibilities because of corporate cultural pressures. Successful entries will show how measures have been implemented to help men and women access parental flexibility without career detriment, stigma or similar examples.

 

Best Employer: BME Women

 

This award rewards new initiatives aimed at encouraging, promoting or retaining Black and minority ethnic (BME) women. This is aimed at innovative initiatives launched in the last 12 months.

Sponsors are advocates in positions of authority who use their influence intentionally to help others advance, while mentors provide advice, feedback, and coaching. The mentor or sponsor should demonstrate how the two-way relationship has been built and provide details of promotions achieved for women with their help in their organisation.

 

Champion of the Year: BME Outreach Initiative

Open to men and women
This should focus on educational outreach initiatives and championing in schools, universities or professional business schools focused on Black  and minority ethnic communities that are under-represented in private wealth management.

Judging Process

  • Stage 1 The contest is opened for submissions and companies enter
  • Stage 2 The Judges review the entries and meet to agree the finalists
  • Stage 3 The finalists are announced
  • Stage 4 Public Voting – online voting opens and will count as one additional judges vote
  • Stage 5 Judges meet to cast final votes and agree the winners
  • Stage 6 The winners are announced publicly at the awards ceremony

Charity Partner

The Taylor Bennett Foundation seeks to address the need for greater diversity in the public relations industry by preparing talented graduates from ethnically diverse background for careers in communications.  Research has demonstrated that only around 8% of people working in the industry are from black and minority ethnic (BAME) backgrounds, and the Foundation was established by communications executive search firm Taylor Bennett in 2007 to improve access to the profession for this under-represented group.

The Foundation’s award-winning work-based PR training programme provides a 10-week intensive training course during which graduates are paid a training allowance and travel expenses. The TBF training enables trainees to expand their knowledge and skills, begin building their personal professional networks, and look for a first job in PR. They take part in practical assignments that improve and demonstrate PR skills, receive specialist careers advice as they begin their job search, and meet leading people in the PR and media industries.

Over the last nine years almost 200 graduates have been through the programmes, around 80% of whom have gone on to work in the PR and communications industry in organisations such as Brunswick, Finsbury, MHP, FTI Consulting, the Red Consultancy, Edelman, Royal London Group, CNN, Cabinet Office and KPMG.

As well as changing the lives of graduates, many from non-privileged backgrounds, the programme has succeeded in making it easier for companies and PR agencies to hire entry-level PR practitioners from a more diverse background, and in raising awareness of the career opportunities available to this target group.  The Foundation was registered as a charity in 2013.
