Now in their fifth year, the Citywealth International Financial Centre Awards were established to highlight the excellence of the advisers and managers in the private wealth sector in the major international financial centres. In what has been a period of extreme turbulence and continuing change for clients this is when quality advice is at a premium. It is when the best of the best really stand out.

The awards are judged by an international panel of highly respected practitioners from all sectors with experience of working with advisors in all the jurisdictions covered. The winners will have excelled in achievement, innovation, expertise and service.

Awards categories and criteria

 

Entry criteria

Any organisation or individual may enter themselves for any of the awards. Organisations may put forward entries for multiple awards as appropriate.

We also welcome your nominations for any organisation or individual you think is deserving of recognition at these prestigious awards.

 

The judges

An independent panel of industry judges determines the winners. The 2016 judging panel will be announced in May 2015.

Additionally, the shortlist is published online and online voting will take place. The online vote carries the weight of one additional judge. Over 5,000 votes were received for the 2015 shortlist.

Awards will go to those organisations/individuals that are recognised by peers and clients as demonstrating excellence under the relevant criteria below:

• In-depth technical expertise & knowledge of their field
• Market-leading products/services
• Innovative solutions to private client dilemmas
• Contribution to the profession
• Client service initiatives – examples and how it differentiates your offering
• Client retention/new business initiatives and success
• Investment performance (third party corroboration will be noted)
• Leadership and vision

 

General guidelines:

• Ensure the submission includes administration contact and email address
• Each entry must be in the form of a written submission of no more than 1000 words. The judges are looking for concise written submissions and your entry should cover as many of the listed criteria as possible.
• Please ensure each item of your submission has the following information clearly printed: category name, name of entering company/firm and contact.
• Please ensure you include what associations and registrations you are a member of.
• When nominating a third party, please provide as much information as possible. Contact details for the nominee are mandatory.

Judging Process

Stage 1 The contest is opened for submissions and companies enter
Stage 2 The Judges review the entries and meet to agree the finalists
Stage 3 The finalists are announced
Stage 4 Public Voting – online voting opens and will count as one additional judges vote
Stage 5 Judges meet to cast final votes and agree the winners
Stage 6 The winners are announced publicly at the awards ceremony

Profile

Lesley is Senior Director for the Global Family and Private Investment Offices Group and responsible for the leadership of our EMEA business. Prior to assuming this position, Lesley served for 5 years as the Managing Director of Northern Trust’s Guernsey trust affiliate, Northern Trust Fiduciary Services (Guernsey) Limited. She continues to serve as a Director of this entity. Lesley joined Northern Trust in 1995 to establish a portfolio management capability outside of the United States, before leading the client servicing teams for both Securities Lending and Northern Trust Asset Management. Lesley serves as a director to Northern Trust Guernsey Limited, Northern Trust Cayman International Limited and to a number of client company boards. Lesley has a M.A. degree, with honors, in accountancy and economics from the University of Dundee, Scotland. IMC qualified

James is a Managing Partner at MASECO Private Wealth, a wealth management firm focusing on providing investment management and wealth planning advice to American citizens and expatriates. James co-founded MASECO with Josh Matthews in 2008 from Citi Private Bank where they ran the US expat desk. In 2011 James started MASECO Private Wealth Switzerland which focused on the international wealth management requirements for US residents. James has advised extensively on multi-jurisdictional asset structuring and management. James holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) qualification as well as the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation.

Paul is a Managing Director and head of Wealth Advisory Services for the EMEA region of the JPMorgan Private Bank. Paul is based in London and joined JPMorgan from Ernst and Young LLP where he was a Director and head of the Private Client Services group in London. He was also Chairman and founder of the Ernst & Young International Private Wealth Group. He has over thirty years experience in advising wealthy individuals and families on both domestic and international tax and estate planning issues. He also has wide experience in advising philanthropists on both tax and structuring issues in relation to charitable giving. Paul is a Solicitor who is a graduate of Durham University. Suzanne is widely known for her expertise in all aspects of family work, in particular the resolution of complex financial issues for high net worth individuals. Suzanne's cases often have an international element and she has considerable experience in dealing with prenuptial agreements and cohabitation issues. As a member of the Children Panel, Suzanne has dealt with numerous cases involving complicated Children Act issues as well as both child abduction and adoption. She is an accredited Resolution mediator and has a thriving mediation practice having recently undertaken a number of referrals under the Court of Appeal mediation scheme. In addition, Suzanne is a qualified collaborative lawyer and trains collaborative law for Resolution. Suzanne has spearheaded the Arbitration Training for family lawyers and is herself an Accredited Arbitrator.

Nancy is CIO and Head of Investments for Close Brothers Asset Management. Appointed in 2010, Nancy oversees a successful, award winning team of 55 investment professionals with a highly disciplined investment process. Nancy has over 20 years’ experience including Managing Partner, Fortune, where she ran an alternatives investment business, Schroders where she was Head of Global Investments for it $20bn Global Mutual Fund businesses and Barings where she was Head of Emerging Markets and served in a range of global asset allocation roles. Paul is a Chartered Accountant, Trust and Estate Practitioner and Fellow of CISI. He joined Butterfield Trust in Guernsey in 1998 after 10 years with KPMG in Australia, London and Hong Kong and has held his current role since 2003. Paul is a committee member of the Guernsey Branch of STEP, is a Deputy Chairman of the Guernsey Association of Trustees and is a non-political member of the States of Guernsey Public Accounts Committee. Since 2009 Paul has been named in the Top 20 Leading Trustees in the Citywealth Leaders List and Butterfield Trust was recently named runner-up at the Citywealth Magic Circle Awards 2015.

Profile

Robyn’s history with Frank Hirth spans twenty years, having first joined in 1995 to develop and drive the US/UK compliance team before setting up her own UK/US specialist tax practice in 2002. Robyn re-joined Frank Hirth in 2010 as Private Client director and board member, and was promoted to Head of Tax in 2015. Currently working between both our London and New York office, Robyn specialises in providing UK and US tax advice to an increasing number of high net worth individuals moving between the UK and US, co-ordinating reporting requirements for both jurisdictions along the way. Robyn also heads up the ‘multi-year practice’ within Frank Hirth, bringing those US citizens who have fallen behind with their filing requirements up to date with the IRS, either through the Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Programme (OVDP) or new streamlined IRS compliance process where appropriate.

Sandy Swinton is a Managing Director and Head of UK Residents in the Private Client Wealth Management team of RBC Wealth Management in the UK. Based in London, he is responsible for the teams that provide integrated wealth management services to high net worth United Kingdom domiciled and resident clients. Sandy began his financial services career at James Capel and Co in 1981 and moved to BZW Ltd in 1987, working in continental equities. He became Managing Director of BZW’s Paris office from 1993 to 1996, and then moved to Robert Fleming Securities with responsibility for Eastern Europe and Russia. He joined Barclays Private Bank in 1999, and served as a Team Leader there until he left to join RBC Wealth Management in November, 2010.
