Future Leaders Awards 2017

Citywealth is delighted to open its third year awards programme to champion young professionals in the wealth sector and highlight the leaders under 40 of today and tomorrow. 

Entries can be made either by individuals themselves or their employer and should outline why they feel the candidate should win that particular category.

Following a submission process, the awards are then judged by a panel of highly recommended young professionals in private wealth management.

An online public voting opens once the shortlist is announced. The results will be taken into consideration by the judges when they place their final vote. All winners will be announced on the night of the awards.

Awards categories and criteria

Entry criteria

Any teams or individual may enter themselves for any of the awards. Organisations may put forward entries for multiple awards as appropriate. We also welcome your nomination for any team or individual you think is deserving of recognition at these prestigious awards.


The judges

An independent panel of industry judges determines the winners. The shortlist is published and online voting will take place. The online vote carries the weight of one additional judge. Over 17,500 votes were received for Citywealth 2016 contests.

Awards will go to those teams/individuals that are recognised by peers and clients as demonstrating excellence under the relevant criteria below:

• In-depth technical expertise & knowledge of their field
• Market-leading products/services
• Innovative solutions to private client dilemmas
• Contribution to the profession
• Client service initiatives – examples and how it differentiates your offering
• Client retention/new business initiatives and success
• Investment performance (third party corroboration will be noted)
• Leadership and vision

General guidelines

• Submissions must include a cover letter with an administration contact details, award category name and name of entering company, photo of the individual and logo 
• The judges are looking for concise written submissions and your entry should cover as many of the listed criteria as possible.
• Please ensure each item of your submission has the following information clearly printed: category name, name of entering company/firm and contact.
• Please ensure you include what associations and registrations you are a member of.
• When nominating a third party, please provide as much information as possible.

As a partner at Payne Hicks Beach I advise a broad range of both UK and foreign clients on personal tax and trust issues. I specialise in providing advice on: Wills and estate planning (including strategic succession planning for family businesses); tax issues relating to non-domiciliaries and cross border migration; all aspects of capital taxes planning; and the establishment and restructuring of onshore and offshore trusts. Together with Alice Palmer, I lead the firm's Scandinavian team, and as part of this initiative I was awarded Gold in the Citywealth Future Leaders 2016 Awards for "Business Development Initiative of the Year". I am also recognised as a "Leading Individual" by The Legal 500 UK and listed in Chambers & Partners UK 2017 as "Up & Coming".

Emma Furzer

“Emma Furzer joined Fairway Trust in Jersey in 2014, having over 7 years’ previous experience in real estate administration specialising in real estate administration for corporations, offshore holding structures and high net worth families, whilst also having worked on the establishment of asset holding and financing structures. Since joining Fairway Trust, Emma has gained a wealth of experience in the private clients team working on a diverse and active portfolio and regularly travels to London to meet clients and intermediaries alike, whilst attending seminars and Citywealth networking events. Emma currently holds the ICSA Diploma in offshore finance and administration and she was shortlisted in the 2017 Magic Circle Awards within the Tomorrow Club category, which focuses on mentoring future leaders in the private wealth industry. Always looking for a challenge, Emma is running in this year’s Standard Chartered Jersey marathon relay race as part of the Fairway team.”

Jo Hurley
Associate Director

Jo is an associate director in Deloitte’s UK Private Client Services department in London. Jo has eight years’ experience in the area of taxation. She works primarily on advising on international personal tax, and now focusses predominantly on the international taxation of private equity executives and fund managers. Her work includes advising on the structuring and ongoing operation of their fund and management entities, the design and implementation of remuneration plans and the provision of personal tax advice to fund executives including planning for non-UK domiciled individuals.

Olivia O'Sullivan
Tax Director - Private Business & Private Client team

Olivia is a director in PwC's Private Business & Private Client team, where she provides personal tax advice to UK resident high net worth individuals, with a particular focus on non-UK domiciled individuals. She also has considerable experience in advising individuals involved in the private equity sector, as well as private equity houses on personal tax aspects of fund structuring, such as advice on the tax efficient design of executives’ remuneration, carried interest and co-investment arrangements. She was previously a director in the Private Client team at Deloitte, and joined PwC in February 2016.

Anthony Poulton
Baker McKenzie

Anthony is a Partner in the Dispute Resolution Department of Baker & McKenzie’s London office and chairs the firm’s market leading Trust Disputes Group. Chambers UK and Citywealth rank him among the leading lawyers for private wealth, contentious trusts and fraud cases. Anthony regularly contributes articles to legal journals in the trusts industry, and frequently speaks at conferences and seminars in Europe and throughout the world. He serves as member of the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists.

James von Simson
Investment Director

James is an Investment Director at Tilney where he manages onshore and offshore discretionary portfolios for private clients and trusts, as well as for charities and pension funds. He began his career at Citigroup in 2005 as part of the Mergers & Acquisitions team in Frankfurt and has held a number of roles in the financial services industry. He joined Thurleigh Investment Managers in 2011 as a Portfolio Manager from Europa Partners, where he was a Senior Associate in the Financial Institutions Group. Thurleigh was acquired by Tilney in 2016. James is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (Chartered FCSI) and also an Affiliate Member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP). He holds the CFA UK Level 4 Investment Management Certificate, the CISI Level 4 Diploma in Investment Advice (Securities), the CISI Level 6 Certificate in Private Client Investment Advice & Management and the STEP Certificate in Trusts and Estate Planning. He is currently studying for the STEP Diploma in International Trust Management. He has been listed in both the Citywealth Leaders List and the Citywealth Honours List in 2015 and in 2016 as well as the Future Leaders 100 list in 2016. He was also shortlisted as Wealth Professional of the Year at the 2016 Magic Circle Awards and won Investment Manager of the Year - Gold at the 2016 Citywealth Future Leaders Awards.

Clare Usher-Wilson
Summit Trust International SA
Director, Family Office Services

Clare is a graduate of History and Politics (BA Hons) at Royal Holloway College, University of London. She began her trust career in Guernsey in 1998 and then moved to Liechtenstein, before settling in Geneva, from where she joined Summit Trust International SA in 2006. Clare has a wide range of experience in trust and company management, including private trust company structures. Assets of such structures generally include a broad variety of real assets, such as fine art and automobile collections, shipping and aviation assets, private equity and commercial and residential property. Clare manages an administration team that is focused on larger, more complex structures where a family office or private investment office is involved. In May 2016, Clare was awarded the Citywealth Magic Circle ‘Trustee of the Year’. Clare speaks English, French and Spanish.

Kim Webb
Barclays UK Private Bank

Currently responsible for the leadership and management of Risk, Control and Governance conducted by the UK Private Banking business, and form part of the first line of defence against Operational Risk. Having joined Barclays in 2010, Kim headed up various teams of bankers covering Res Non Dom, Russia, APAC regions & Politically Exposed clients both in International and UK clients. Prior to Barclays, Kim enjoyed 22 years at Santander working with front office teams predominately as a regulated Manager, having started in branches her final position was that of Regional Manager responsible for successfully managing part of the UK branch network.
