Charity hike: Team Manches summit Kilimanjaro

Team Manches raised over £45,000 from friends, clients and members of the firm for four great charities: Cooperation Ireland, the peace building charity, the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, the Eve Appeal (for gynaecological cancer) and a local charity, The Rafiki Orthopaedic Foundation, which provides essential orthopaedic services for children in Eastern Africa and which is spearheaded by Belfast surgeon, Dennis Mawhinney, a friend of the Manches' team, who joined the climb. STEP Private Client Awards 2010/11 winners announced

The STEP awards 2010 were presented by Scottish impressionist, playwright and comedian, Rory Bremner. Mr Bremner is Britain’s best-loved impressionist. With a repertoire of over one hundred characters, he impersonates everyone from film stars to chat-show hosts, sportsmen to newsreaders and politicians to Mohammed Fayed. Wine say Boodle Hatfield’s Henry Mander is proving good for the wallet if not the waistline

Investors are reported to be returning to the fine wine market with the Liv-Ex 100 Index of fine wines traded in London soaring by 47 per cent since the end of 2008 and 27 per cent since the start of this year. Demand for the 2009 Bordeaux is strong, with bottles of Lafite selling for upwards of £800 per bottle.  In addition to attractive returns and a delicious asset to enjoy, investors can also take advantage of a beneficial tax regime and reliefs, as law firm Boodle Hatfield explains. Henry Mander, a solicitor at Boodle Hatfield who acts for wealthy individuals and investors said: “A bottle of wine is generally categorised as a ‘wasting asset’ by HMRC. This means investors buying wine in the expectation of it increasing in value in future years will not be subject to Capital Gains Tax on any profits when sold.” Read more...

Cambiz Alikhani, of Iveagh, the Guinness Family Office, has launched a blog which will update the market on his news and views on investing. Alikhani, who was formerly at Daiwa Int’l Capital Management, comments in one of the first posts. “Over the last few months financial markets have been pre-occupied with one key macro question: are we likely to see a double dip recession ahead? Our proprietary forecasting tools paint a very interesting picture with not much good news for those of us living in the UK. Our research shows that out of the seven major regions of the world that we analyse, the UK is by far the most at risk of a double dip recession but that the threat of this is limited (at least for the time being) in the rest of the world. Citywealth women in wealth first event at the Mappin & Webb room at Mosimann's Belgravia talking about

Tuesday 21 September saw the launch of the first Citywealth Women in Wealth event, held at the unique Mosimann's venue at 11b West Halkin Street, which sits in a smart Bond Street style lux-shopping boulevard. Held in the Mappin & Webb room, the twenty five attendees included Mr Ghayth Armanazi who is Executive Director at The British Syrian Society. Also attending were RBC Wealth Management's, Liz Taylor, who demonstrated substantial knowledge of Middle Eastern communities.  Catharine Bell of Lawrence Graham, who came up with the topic attended, as did Marie Laure Humbert from Iveagh Ltd (Guinness Family Office) and Charlotte Thorne of Capital Generation Partners who are all members of the newly formed Women in Wealth club which had its launch party back in June.
