Maitland hires former Cains’ lawyer Daniel Mackelden as a partner in its London office
Mackelden most recently headed up the London office of offshore law firm Cains joins Maitland as a partner in its legal advisory group. He has over fifteen years’ experience as a cross-border corporate, banking and finance lawyer. Prior to Cains he worked at Walkers and originally trained and qualified at Linklaters. As well as continuing with fee-earning, his new role will include working across Maitland’s private client, corporate commercial and investment funds practice groups to strengthen ties with existing and new clients. The OECD and UNCTAD have commend G20 countries for avoiding new protectionist barriers to inward investment
The OECD and UNCTAD have commended G20 countries for avoiding new protectionist barriers to inward investment, while warning that continued vigilance is needed in the face of emergency measures to address the economic crisis that still pose a threat to competition and international investment. In their third report to the G20 on this issue, the two organisations find that “by and large, G20 governments have continued to honour their commitment to refrain from raising new barriers to international investment.” Read more...

Matrix delivers positive returns in May for its Asia hedge fund
The Matrix Asia Fund, a long/short equity fund managed by Rupert Foster, returned +1.32% in May adding value on both the long and short books and outperforming the MSCI Asia Index by 11.16% for the month. Year-to-date the Fund is up +9.58% whilst the MSCI Asia Index has returned -5.79%. Since inception on 08/08/08, the Matrix Asia Fund has outperformed the MSCI Asia Pacific Index by 64.6% returning 50.5% (to 31 May 2010). Read more...

New date for Jersey Finance London Wealth Management Conference
Jersey Finance has announced that its annual Trust and Private Wealth Conference in London will now take place on Tuesday 6th July, having been postponed from April as a result of travel disruption caused by volcanic ash. The conference, which will now be a breakfast event starting from 8am, will retain its planned focus on the implications for the wealth management sector of the rise of the emerging ‘BRIC’ economies and the sharp contrast with the increasingly troubled Eurozone economies.
