List and award methodology
Citywealth takes regular soundings from the global wealth management industry about the individuals, organisations and markets. Having compiled our annual lists we cross reference the information with the industry and proprietary information to ensure impartiality in respect of both the views expressed by individuals, companies and clients as well as internal information divulged in interviews.
As a provider of management and information services to the industry our contacts and experience gives us a unique insight into the workings of independent and global organisations. Interviews are held in person on a formal and regular basis with leaders of the wealth management industry in all fields.
All interviews are conducted by Editor Karen Jones who is a known authority in the wealth management and private client space. Karen has twenty years experience in the media world starting her career at News International. Her experience spans law, financial and lifestyle publications in commercial and editorial roles. As well as interviewing the rich lists professional friends, she also interviews multi millionaires and billionaires who wish to connect with other ultra high net worths or talk about philanthropy.
When in depth analysis and management information is discussed, we look at broad pictures, growth, expectations, technical ability, professional manner and longevity. We then further review the details with the industry at large to ensure that companies are fulfilling their own aims and aspirations as well those of clients and intermediaries.
Market aims are tested through experience and competitor analysis. Qualitative information is shared amongst industry specialists to ensure we review management teams and processes to the full.
Citywealth retains an independent stand point at all times to maintain integrity and although we allow important and influential individuals limited “quote check” privileges, ultimately we retain final say about any information that is published.
We welcome feedback or information about any professional within the wealth management and private client industry. Karen is also happy to act confidentially and anonymously for any clients or professionals who may wish to make enquiries about individuals without being identified because of a high profile or because they have found themselves in an unexpectedly delicate situation.
Finally, for those who may be concerned about choosing a wealth manager or adviser, some brief thoughts. It’s important to understand that the wealth business is very steady: it is more about wealth preservation and acting with caution rather than large increases in capital and ‘big wins’ with investment. At the very heart are areas such as trusts and tax planning which seek to ensure wealthy clients have considered their lives, families and businesses in an increasingly complex financial and legal environment. The wealth and private client financial business is really about stewardship, sound advice at the right time and knowledge of handling the global rich and famous and their exceptional personalities. Whilst choosing an adviser or manager solely by personality would be unwise, it should still be part of the decision in what will become a very personal and long term relationship.
